A man was taken to hospital after firefighters put out a small fire in the kitchen of a flat in Laburnum Road, Mexborough, on Thursday morning.

Fire crews were called to the ground floor property just before 10.30am and arrived to find the fire, with the flat full of smoke. They extinguished the fire and ventilated the flat.

The occupant, a man in his 20s, was treated by ambulance crews and taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with minor smoke inhalation. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
