Fire at Rotherham shop

Bin fire spreads to flat
05 August 2010

Firefighters quickly tackled a blaze at a Rotherham grocery store last night, saving it from more severe, structural damage.

Crews from Rotherham and Darnall fire stations were called to the fire at the shop on College Road, Masbrough at 01.18 last night.

The ground floor of the shop was well alight and firefighters used a main jet and hose reels to put out the blaze. Crews also faced some small explosions, caused by aerosol cans in the store.

Flats behind the shop were unaffected by the incident and all occupants were accounted for at the scene. Damage was restricted to smoke and fire damage to the interior of the shop.

Crews left the scene at 02.13. The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious.
