A young couple have received hospital treatment after a chip pan fire at their Rotherham home.
Firefighters were called to the address on Bawtry Road, Wickersley, just after 3.00am on Sunday morning. They found the fire was already out when they got there, but a male in his 20s was suffering from smoke inhalation and given oxygen therapy.
Ambulance crews took him to hospital as a precaution, along with a female in her 20s who was suffering from shock.
Firefighters ventilated the property. They have urged householders to throw out potentially deadly chip pans and replace them with a thermostatically-controlled deep fat fryer, or use oven chips.
