Three people escaped a fire at their bungalow on Monday after being alerted to the danger by their smoke alarms.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Melbourne Avenue, Aston, at 4.35pm and arrived to find the roof well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the flames but the property suffered severe fire damage throughout.

The occupants were all unharmed. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical wiring fault.
