Hundreds of Maltby residents enjoyed a sun-soaked family fun day at their local fire station this weekend, raising more than £500 for charity in the process.
Maltby Fire Station flung open its doors for the annual fundraiser, which saw families enjoy activities ranging from rodeo and bouncy castles, to serious demonstrations around chip pans, road safety and first aid.
Community organisations and individuals got in on the act, with a barbecue run by Rotherham Youth Services, refreshments supplied by the Full Life Church and a cake donated by the fire station cleaner, for the guess the weight of the cake contest.
Partners including NHS Rotherham, South Yorkshire Police and the South Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership also put on a range of engaging displays and demonstrations.
Cash raised by stalls and activities will be split between The Firefighter’s Charity and Hilltop, a nearby school catering for children with different needs.
Maltby Station Manager Cath Toovey said: “We were completely overwhelmed by the response of the local residents to this event, which grows year-on-year. The station was packed with families, highlighting the ongoing and vital roll fire station plays within our community. We’re especially grateful to people who dipped their hands in their pockets to donate to these two wonderful and very worthy causes.”
