Residents rescued by Firefighters

Firefighters have led eight people to safety at a flats fire on Rawmarsh Hill in the Parkgate area of Rotherham.

Crews were alerted to the incident at around 4am this morning.  Three fire engines from Rotherham and Dearne stations attended.

When fire crews arrived they found the small block of flats heavily smoke logged and a door to one of the flats on fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the block of flats and led eight people to safety, while the fire was quickly extinguished with a hose reel.

All occupants were checked over at the scene by ambulance crews but luckliy no one needed to attend hospital.

Firefighters left the scene at 5:20am.
