A fire has gutted a kitchen at a house in Elsecar, Barnsley.

Fire crews from Dearne and Tankersley fire stations were called to the blaze on Wath Road at around 9.20am this morning.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control, but the fire caused extensive heat and smoke damage to the kitchen.

The male resident, who was outside the property at the time of the incident, was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms.

A faulty toaster is believed to have caused the fire.
