Town centre barge fire

training exercise
26 April 2011

Fire crews have tackled a fire on board a 20 tonne derelict barge.

Crews from Rotherham and Darnall fire stations were called to the blaze close to Central Road, Rotherham town centre at 10.30pm last night. Rubbish on board the barge had been deliberately set alight, spreading to its basement.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the 40 metre long vessel and put out the fire using a hose reel. Crews left the same just after 1am.
