A house in Thurcroft has been destroyed by fire.

Crews from Maltby and Rotherham fire stations were called to the four bedroom, two storey detached property on St Withold Court, Thurcroft at about 1pm yesterday (Tuesday December 20).

The fire started in some rubbish outside the house before spreading to a gas inlet and then to the interior of the house.

Fire crews used hose reels, water jets and a ladder platform to tackle the blaze. A family of seven escaped unharmed.

The Fire Victim Support Unit also attended to offer aid and assistance to the occupiers.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
