South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue - Working For a Safer South Yorkshire

Dozens of flooding calls

10 June 2012

We've received around 50 flooding related calls after heavy rain in South Yorkshire on Sunday evening.

Calls began just after 8.30pm in the Smithies, Athersley North and Athersley South areas of Barnsley.

Further calls were received from north-west areas of Sheffield after 9.30pm.

Firefighters mobilisations are being prioritised to life risk incidents and, due to the high volume of calls, we are not able to pump out flooded properties.

People who are concerned about flooding should move their valuables and pets to a higher floor of their house if possible, and turn off gas and electrical supplies.

However, if you need the fire service for an emergency you should dial 999 as usual.
