Royston is a retained station with an area which mainly covers rural and residential risks in a very large geographical area. It also includes a number of large commercial risks such as Monkton Coking Plant, Premdor, Sash Windows, Castle Gas and Padget Brothers.  Villages such as Royston, Monk Bretton, Darton, Darfield, Mapplewell, Shafton, Grimethorpe, Cudworth, Athersley and Carlton make up the community served by Royston. Fire Cadets train here on Wednesday evenings.
