We are continuing our work to promote equality in race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion and belief, to promote human rights within the Service and to develop cohesive communities across South Yorkshire.

Equality & Diversity work covers all aspects of our operations and, in particular, we aim to promote equality in the ways we offer jobs and deliver services to communities, the way we organise resources to prioritise the needs of groups at most risk of fire and other emergencies, and in how we engage and involve staff, services users and communities in developing responsive services.

SYFR supports the following five Staff Groups for underrepresented groups of Staff;

·         Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Staff Group

·         Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGB&T) Network

·         Disability Staff Group

·         Faith & Belief Staff Group

·         Women's Network

Above all, we strive for a service that is equal, fair, respectful and reflects the diversity of the community it serves. We aim to create a working environment that is safe and secure and where employees can feel valued for being individual.

Equality Impact Assessments

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue (SYFR) undertake comprehensive equality impact assessments (EIAs) to identify impacts and opportunities for promoting equality across all the following equality strands - race, gender (including gender reassignment), disability, age, sexual orientation and religion and belief. Below is the timetable which SYFR functions use to prioritise undertaking their EIAs which fits with SYFR Integrated Equality & Diversity Scheme: 2007 - 2010.

In the sub links at the left  hand side of this page,  you will also find all completed current EIAs from April 2007 to present.
