Introduction: what a publication scheme is and why it has been developed
One of the aims of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (which is referred to as FOIA in the rest of this document) is that public authorities should be clear and proactive about the information they will make public.
To do this they must produce a publication scheme, setting out:
• Information which they publish or intend to publish;
• The manner in which the information will be published; and
• Whether the information is available free of charge or on payment.
The publication scheme consists of information already published and held by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) or information which is to be published in the future. The vast majority of the information listed in the publication scheme will be available via our website and/or as part of our comprehensive Corporate Plan. These documents can easily be identified by the underlining which denotes they are hyperlinks and which will take you to a page on our website. Where information is not hyperlinked, it is available from us on request in electronic or printed copy. The reason we use our website for so much of our information is that it is extremely cost effective, it has greater immediacy and is also a more environmentally friendly delivery option*.
The majority of information that is listed in our publication scheme is available free of charge. If there is a charge then this will be highlighted.
Some information which we hold may not be made public, for example information about national security or court records.
Our Publication Scheme is divided into 10 parts:
Part 1: Purpose
Part 2: Classes of information published by the authority
Part 3: Summary of our functions
Part 4: How we make decisions
Part 5: Our policies and procedures
Part 6: Lists and registers
Part 7: The services we offer
Part 8: Our policies and procedures
Part 9: List and registers
Part 10: The services we offer
