South Yorkshire Fire And Rescue

Firefighters Join Forces with South Yorkshire Pharmacy Group

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are working in partnership with Weldricks Pharmacy to promote fire safety across the county.

52,000 referral cards for the Service’s free home fire safety checks, which can include free fitting of smoke alarms, are being issued in prescription bags and over the counter from 54 Weldrick Pharmacies.

This is a new initiative which has recently been trialed at six of the Weldrick stores and has proved to be a great success.  It is now being rolled out across South Yorkshire.

Jon Parkes, Station Manager from Royston Fire Station, who launched the scheme, said:  “This is a fantastic new partnership between the fire service and a private retailer, which will reach out to many people throughout the county to promote fire safety.  In particular it is helping us to engage with those who are more at risk of injury due to fire, such as elderly or disabled people.”

Richard Wells, Superintendent Pharmacist for Weldricks Pharmacy, said “Weldricks have a long term commitment to keeping pharmacy healthcare services in the heart of local communities for local people.  The location of our pharmacies means we are ideally placed to help the Fire Service promote this worthwhile scheme.”
