UPDATED – Thursday 0700hrs Firefighters from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are still tackling a barn fire on Manor Lane, Adwick-upon-Dearne, which they were initially called to at around 8.20pm on Wednesday evening. Around 100 tonnes of hay were involved in the fire, inside a 25m x 25m barn, causing a significant amount of smoke to spread into the surrounding area. Local residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed, and that smoke remains present in the area on Thursday morning. At one stage on Wednesday evening, around 25 firefighters attended from Mexborough, Rotherham and Brampton stations. By Thursday morning, one fire crew remained in attendance using a main jet. It is expected that it will take much of the day to completely extinguish this blaze, with help from the owner to break up the hay bales. It is believed that the initial fire was in a caravan situated around 8 to 9 metres away, but spread to the barn; this will be the subject of an investigation which will begin on Thursday. Nobody has been injured in the blaze, and no other properties are at risk from the fire.
