Bin Fire Spreads To Property

Incident
25 March 2010

Firefighters are warning of the dangers of wheelie bin fires after the front door of a Thorne property caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The bin appears to have been deliberately placed next to the front door and set on fire, with the door catching fire due to the heat.

Firefighters from Thorne arrived at the address, on North Eastern Road, within four minutes of being called, and quickly put the fire out. Nobody was hurt in this incident, but a fire service spokesman said:

"Wheelie bin fires may seem a prank but they can be deadly. This fire could easily have developed into a much more serious incident if it wasn't for the quick actions of firefighters."
