A Doncaster man had a lucky escape on Saturday night, in the latest of a series of kitchen fires in the town.
The 49 year old man was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus after falling asleep with the chip pan on at his home in Ansdell Road, Bentley, Doncaster at around 11.30pm.
The incident follows several other cooking related incidents over the weekend, including another chip pan fire at Barton Place, Conisbrough, a cooker fire on Smith Street, Balby and a microwave overnwhich set alight on Arklow Road, Intake.
More fires start in the kitchen than any other room, and cooking accounts for more than 60% of all accidental house fires in South Yorkshire.
