Pan Fire Puts Man In Hospital

General

A Doncaster man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation in the early hours of Friday morning after a chip pan fire at his flat.

The 32 year-old fell asleep after putting a pan on the hob at the high rise Shaftesbury House flats on Cardigan Road in Intake.

Luckily, the man’s neighbour knocked on his door at around 6am after hearing the smoke alarm and smelling smoke.

Watch Manager Daz Johnson from Doncaster fire station said: “The fire had burnt itself out but this man was still very fortunate considering he’d fallen asleep with a pan cooking on the hob and wasn't woken by his smoke alarm.

"I'd like to praise the actions of his neighbour who, after hearing the alarm, woke the man and turned off the cooker before calling 999.

“Chip pans should never be left unattended and it is never a good idea to attempt to cook after drinking alcohol.”
