A Barnsley woman had a narrow escape after tea lights set fire to a television set.
The candles were positioned too close to the TV in the living room of the premise on Joseph Street, Grimethorpe.
The woman ran out of the house before alerting the fire service and neighbours, just after 11pm last night.
Firefighters from Royston fire station put out the fire, after a neighbour had picked up the TV and thrown it into the back garden.
To avoid candles starting a fire in your home, residents should follow the safety tips below:
· Don't leave them burning in a room with no one in it
· Make sure they're in holders that won't fall over
· Put night lights or tea lights on a heat-resistant surface
· Keep them away from curtains and furniture, and not under a surface, like a shelf.
· Don't put them where they could be knocked over easily or where people could burn their clothes or hair
· Make sure they're completely out - not smouldering
