South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue - Working For a Safer South Yorkshire

Public Consultation

SYFR

Responding to your views

During the summer of 2010, we ran a major staff and public consultation seeking views on the future of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.

In late 2010, we published all the responses we received, verbatim, together with a shorter document which summarised the responses.

In the past, we have been criticised for not listening to the outcome of consultation work.  Therefore, since November, staff and public responses were further analysed by managers to assess which comments needed a reply, and others which suggested potentially good ideas to implement.  We've picked out the key statements that we needed to respond to and brought them together in this document.

Public Consultation

In the summer of 2010, we launched a major public consultation, seeking views on the future of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, bearing in mind the likelihood of Government funding cuts. This consultation ran until August 2010, and all responses were then analysed to help to develop our future plans.

You can view the responses to the consultation by clicking on the links below. The 'Summary' is an eight-page summary of the key points which came across from the public feedback. The 'Complete Responses' document is an 84-page list of every single response we received, published verbatim, without any editing. The only exception is that for some answers which were “Yes/No” options, we have counted, but not published, straight “Yes” or “No” answers, unless they contained some additional comments explaining their answer.

Our proposed Service Plan for 2011-14, which has been influenced by your consultation responses, will be presented to the Fire & Rescue Authority in November. Your consultation responses also produced many other responses, ideas and suggestions which we are still looking into. We will publish our responses by the end of 2010.
