A group of Doncaster firefighters are embarking on a gruelling 400 mile cycle journey to raise cash for a major cancer charity.
The four colleagues are all attempting to cycle from Buckingham Palace to Edinburgh Castle in just 28 hours.
All the cash raised will go to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity in Sheffield.
Doncaster Green Watch trio Tony Crossfield, Rob Halliwell and Dan Nortcliffe, along with Alex Marland from Adwick Green watch will set off from outside the palace on 25 July.
They’ll be supported along the way by SYFR colleagues Graham Wilkinson, Colin Dickerson, Mike Anthony and Ian Barwell.
Tony said: “Our training has been going pretty well and most weeks we are cycling up to 250 miles. The longest ride to date is a 150 mile round trip to Filey and we have a 200 mile training ride planned for next month.
“It will be a real challenge especially if the summer weather is here but we’re all very excited about the trip, and will hopefully raise plenty of money for this very worthy cause.”
Lyndsey Raynor, fundraiser at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: “We really admire the group for attempting this long distance cycle journey and we wish them all the luck with their challenge.
“We are thrilled that they have chosen to donate the money raised to Weston Park Hospital. To have the support from members of the public in this way is invaluable to us and it means we can continue funding vital cancer research.”
