Around 60 firefighters are still at the scene of a large fire at a recycling plant on White Lea Grove in Mexborough.
Firefighters have prevented the blaze spreading to nearby residential properties.
Fire crews are now using foam to tackle the fire, which also spread to a brick building inside the recycling yard.
Residents are still advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the large amount of smoke in the area. SYFR expect to remain at the scene for at least the rest of the day.
The following roads are closed: A6023 Wath Road at Mexborough, from Main Street to Rowms Lane roundabout.
Residents at Frederick Street and Cawood Street have been evacuated due to the heat. 20 residents are staying at a rest centre in Conisbrough.
All schools should be open as normal.
Doncaster Council's Director of Neighbourhoods and Communities Jane Miller said: “Doncaster Council and its partners South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Environment Agency and Health Protection Agency are all working together in response to the incident.
“Residents from Frederick and Cawood Streets have been evacuated, and we have opened the Conisbrough Social Education Centre on Old Road as a rest centre for those who need our support. “We are awaiting the results of air quality testing to see if it is safe for residents to return home and go outdoors. “In the meantime, residents in Mexborough are still advised to keep doors and windows closed. As a precaution please stay inside until further notice due to the large amount of smoke in the area.”
