Bungalow Fire

Crews from Doncaster and Rossington spent two hours dealing with a large fire in Bessacarr in the early hours of this morning.

They were alerted to the incident at 2:49am when the bungalow on Church Lane was reported to be well alight.  On arrival, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside the property to conduct a full search, following reports that someone may be inside.  Luckily, no-one was at home, although significant damage was caused to the bungalow.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and Fire Investigators will be working with police to establish the cause of the blaze.

Foal Rescued from Hole

A four-week-old foal on a farm in Worsbrough was rescued by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue's Technical Rescue Unit, after falling into a hole adjacent to a quarry.  The owner of the horse called the Service at 5:02pm, to report that the foal was in considerable distress.  Firefighters from Rotherham, Barnsley and Tankersley attended the scene.

Specialist rescue equipment was then used to lift the foal in the complex rescue, which was completed successfully after nearly two hours. Crews left the scene at 6:53pm.
