Doncaster flat fire

17 May 2010

A fire caused a block of flats to be evacuated in Doncaster last night.

Firefighters were called to the three storey block of 14 flats on Victoria Road, Balby at 9.22pm.

Smoke had been spotted coming from the window of one of the top storey flats. It is believed the fire started when an occupant fell asleep whilst smoking, accidentally setting light to a mattress.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using a hose reel, leaving the scene at 10.19pm.
