Schools Education Statement

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is committed to working in partnership with schools to raise the awareness of students concerning home fire safety. In liaison with local education authorities the Brigade has formulated an educational scheme of work called "Blaze" to be used within the curriculum concerning the overall education of children in becoming "safer citizens" within the community.

Aims: To reduce the incidence of fires, injuries and fatalities due to fire and hoax calls in accordance with the targets set by the Home Office and those contained within the overall aims & objectives of the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Plan.

Objectives: To foster good behaviour, relations and establish contacts between the Fire Service, schools and children by developing a base on which to build in the following aspects of Community Fire Safety -

  • Prevention of fire.
  • Smoke alarms.
  • Fire escape plans.
  • Fire play, matches and lighters.
  • Hoax calls.
  • Role and purpose of the firefighter.
  • Seasonal fire safety advice

Fire can affect any family without warning.
Every year many people die or are injured because of fire.

The FIRE POLICE MUSEUM, SHEFFIELD has special arrangements for pre-booked school visits.
