Shoppers Get a Helping Hand from Firefighters

Firefighters from Maltby Fire Station will be helping to lighten the load for shoppers this Saturday (1st March), to raise money for a charity that supports injured firefighters and their families.

For a small donation to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, customers at the Morrisons supermarket in Bramley can have their shopping packed into bags and carried out to their cars by their local firefighters.

The firefighters will also be taking the opportunity to give out potentially life-saving fire safety advice and offer free home fire safety checks, including free fitting of smoke alarms.

Station Manager Andy Hoyland said:  “This event is a great opportunity to meet the local community and to raise money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.  The serious burns sustained by two South Yorkshire firefighters in a fire earlier this month shows just how dangerous the role of a firefighter can be.  This charity supports injured firefighters like them and their families, so it is very close to our hearts.”
