Crews Tackle Allotment Blaze

Residents in an area of Maltby were advised to keep their doors and windows closed this afternoon as firefighters tackled a deliberately started blaze on allotments.

There were fears materials containing asbestos were involved in the fire, which was located just off Tickhill Road.

LPG cylinders were also close to the blaze, which covered an area approximately 40m x 20m.

Incident Commander Gordon Pritchard from Maltby Station said: “We could see roofing sheets and piping involved in the fire, and these things often contain asbestos, so local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution. Once our crews had extinguished the blaze we checked it with a thermal imaging camera. Fortunately, none of the gas cylinders were involved in fire.”
