Lucky Escape for Sheffield Man

Sheffield firefighters are warning about the dangers of leaving cooking unattended after they were called to a property in Parson Cross late on Sunday.

They arrived to find the house on Holgate Drive full of smoke, after a man who lived there left a saucepan unattended on the cooker, and had then fallen asleep.

Fortunately, the man woke and was able to get out of the property safely, before firefighters arrived to ventilate the house.

Crew Manager Chris Craft from Elm Lane station said: “This incident could have been much worse. Leaving pans unattended is extremely dangerous and can have very serious consequences.”

The property did not have any smoke alarms, but firefighters have arranged to revisit the house to install some.
