Doncaster firefighters and other staff from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue will be celebrating the diversity of Doncaster’s communities this weekend, as part of Doncaster Pride.
This year’s event will take place at Doncaster Market Place on Sunday 17 August.
Two fire engines from Doncaster and Edlington fire stations will be present and firefighters will run a variety of fun activities, including a hose running competition with prizes for the fastest male and female competitor. They will also perform a casualty extrication from a mock car crash.
The Service’s Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) Staff Group will also be attending the event to show their support and engage with members of the public. Advice and information about the careers available within the Service will be available.
The event will allow South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to promote diversity, while engaging with the public and issuing vital fire and road safety advice.
Doncaster Fire Station Manager, Shaun Pilley, said: “We’re very pleased to be involved in such an important community event. It will help us to get vital safety messages across but also show that the fire service supports and actively promotes diversity. Our LGBT staff group will be on hand to share their experiences and show that careers in the fire service are open to everyone.”
The event is totally free and invites all members of the community to get involved. It will run from 2pm until late, and will feature a variety of entertainment acts.
