Open Day for Barnsley Fire Station

Barnsley firefighters will be welcoming local people into the station on Saturday (13th September) for an open day featuring a number of demonstrations and activities based around road safety.

A range of displays are planned throughout the day, including:

• Technical Rescue Unit (TRU) display – firefighters trained in specialist rescue techniques will be performing a demonstration.
• Demonstration of cutting ‘casualties’ from a mock crashed car
• Big screen driving game
• Brake reaction testing

The Barnsley Road Safety Team will also be attending along with a representative from Barnsley Baby World who will be giving out information and advice on children’s car seats.

The event will be open between 12 noon and 4pm.

Firefighters will be on hand to offer road and fire safety advice along with offering free Home Fire Safety Risk Assessments.

Barnsley Station Manager Simon Dillon said: “This is an opportunity for our crews to engage with the local community, and to offer valuable road safety advice.  We’ll have plenty of activities going on so it’s an ideal opportunity for parents to bring their kids along for a really fun day.”
