  • IF YOU SEE A PAN CATCH FIRE GET HELP FROM AN ADULT IMMEDIATELY OR GET OUT, STAY OUT AND GET THE FIRE BRIGADE OUT.

  • DO NOT THROW WATER OVER THE FIRE AND DO NOT TRY TO MOVE THE PAN.

  • REMEMBER CHIP PANS CAN HURT, MAIM OR KILL - PLEASE TAKE CARE.
Chip pan fires are the biggest cause of fire injuries, causing 3,600 in the year 2000.

Chip pans are safe as long as some simple guidelines are followed.

A chip pan should NEVER be filled more than one-third full of fat or oil.

The pan should NEVER be left unattended when the heat is switched on.

If the oil or fat in the pan is giving off smoke, turn off the heat and leave to cool, otherwise it will catch fire

Never mess with electrical cables or appliances yourself. If you need to do anything ask an adult to do it for you. There are some things you can look out for though! Tell an adult if you spot any of these dangers.
Heaters should always stand in a safe place where they can't be knocked over and where they can't be tripped over. Heaters also should never be placed close to anything that could catch fire.

Sparks can jump from open fires or someone could stumble and fall into one, so they should be correctly guarded like this.
Look at these pictures and see if you can spot the dangers.

Can you spot the dangers in this kitchen?

Can you spot the dangers in this living room?

Can you spot the dangers in this bedroom?

If you see a dangerous thing in your home, tell an adult and keep everyone in the house safe.
