Water
The Fire  Rescue Services Act 2004 lays down the requirement that the Fire Authority must ensure that an adequate supply of water is available for firefighting purposes. To achieve this the Fire Service has made arrangements with the Water Authority to ensure that sufficient fire hydrants are installed and maintained throughout the county.

Fire hydrants are marked with a yellow indicator plate, which is either fixed to a concrete post or attached to a lamp post, and are inspected at least once a year by Fire Service personnel.

It is illegal to use a fire hydrant to obtain water for purposes other than firefighting unless authorised by the Water Authority. Persons found to be using fire hydrants without the appropriate authorisation will be prosecuted.
