Fire Service Careers

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue employ firefighters, control staff and non-uniformed support staff, all of whom have a wide range of skills to enable them to provide a first class service.

At the front line of this service is the firefighter whose job now involves much more than fighting fires. Full time firefighting is a varied and interesting career especially as the fire service is now focusing more on prevention of fires and accidents, and on you, the public, to be more safety conscious.  Click here for details on when we will be recruiting for firefighters.

Control Staff are based in the Command and Control Centre in Sheffield. Using a fully computerised system, their primary role is to receive emergency calls from members of the public and mobilise appliances and firefighters to deal with incidents throughout the County. Without the staff in the Control Room the firefighters would not know when and where they were needed.

Our whole organisation depends on a team effort from everyone, including over 120 non-uniformed support staff who are currently employed within the Brigade.
