FIRE AT HIGH RISE FLATS

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue were alerted to a fire at high rise flats on Callow Drive, Gleadless in Sheffield just after 7pm this evening.

Three Fire appliances from Mansfield Road and Central station were quickly at the scene.  Firefighters found rubbish on fire in the lobby area, and the rest of the building heavily smoke logged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made a search of the building.  A woman and her three month old baby were found to be suffering from smoke inhalation in their 9th floor flat.  While two adults and another three month old baby were also found to be suffering from smoke inhalation in their flat on the 5th floor.

Firefighters used hose reels to quickly extinguish the fire and then ventilate the building.

The two babies were both taken to the Sheffield Children’s hospital as a precaution.

Fire crews left the scene at 9:04pm.

A fire investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
