Welding Accident Sparks Fire
A garage was almost totally destroyed and a house was damaged after welding materials caught fire this evening.
Three crews from Rossington and Doncaster were called to the scene, on Hyperion Way in Rossington, at 6:34pm. They arrived to find a large garage well alight, with a pick-up, motorbike and tools inside.
The fire had also started to spread to the adjoining house, damaging some of the windows and the door, and causing smoke damage inside.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus and hose reels managed to control the spread and extinguish the fire in around 45 minutes. However, the garage, which was mainly made from wood and metal cladding, and its contents were almost completely destroyed in the fire.
A couple and their child who live in the house were safely outside when crews arrived, but the 34 year old woman had to be given oxygen by firefighters at the scene, after suffering from smoke inhalation. She did not attend hospital.
Although the house was not detached, no other residents had to be evacuated as a result of the fire.
The male resident in the house had been welding earlier in the evening and this is believed to have been the cause of the blaze.
