Fire in Yard of Bed Supplier

Crews were called to a large fire in Rotherham at 7:18pm after members of the public saw thick black smoke in the area.

Four fire engines, from Rotherham, Elm Lane and Mexborough fire stations, attended the bed supplier's yard on Sarah Street in Holmes, along with an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Darnall Fire Station.

A number of lorry containers, containing mattresses, were well alight.  Crews, some wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the fire using jets.  However, due to the thick smoke in the area, South Yorkshire Police evacuated some surrounding homes as a precaution.  No-one was injured in the blaze.

After successfully extinguishing the blaze, firefighters began damping down at around 8:30pm.  They left the scene at 9:20pm.

The fire is currently believed to be suspicious.
