Flat Fire

At 11:13pm, crews from Mansfield Road Fire Station attended Spring Close View in the Gleadless area of Sheffield, after a flat was found to be on fire.

Firefighters went inside to search the flat, but luckily it was unoccupied.

The fire had caused significant damage to the living room, including the furniture, but no-one was injured or had to be evacuated as firefighters extinguished the fire before it could spread.

After checking the neighbouring flats, the two fire crews left the scene at 12:39am.

The fire is believed to be suspicious and Fire Investigators from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue will be working with police today to establish the cause.

Man Trapped Under Forklift Truck

A man was taken to hospital in Sheffield after becoming trapped underneath the forklift truck he was driving.

Firefighters were called to the premises of Coe-Crete on Colliery Road in Wincobank at around 12.30 this afternoon.

Crews were quickly on the scene, and found the injured man had been removed from underneath the vehicle by some of his work colleagues.

He appeared to have jumped from the vehicle, fearing it was about to tip over, but ended up underneath it, and was dragged for a short distance.

Firefighters administered oxygen to the man, in his 20s, and assisted the ambulance crew, before he was taken to the Northern General hospital with serious injuries to his lower body.
