Kitchen Fire Highlights Chip Pan Dangers
A man was treated for smoke inhalation on Thursday lunchtime after a chip pan fire at a maisonette in Sheffield.
The 41 year-old went into a neighbour’s property in Westfield after spotting smoke and flames coming from the kitchen.
The occupant of the flat – a lady in her 60s – had started to cook some chips, but then went to a friend’s house and left the pan unattended.
Watch Manager Martin Toovey from Mansfield Road said the consequences could have been much more serious: “Had this blaze not been spotted early then the fire could have easily spread beyond the kitchen and caused severe damage. We would urge anyone with a chip pan to throw it out. This incident shows just what sort of risks they pose if left unattended.”
The man was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but didn’t require hospital treatment.
