Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation

A Sheffield family had to evacuate their home in the early hours of Friday morning when a gas leak was discovered.

Firefighters were called to the property in Grimesthorpe at around 02:30 and discovered an attempt had been made to rip an external gas pipe from the side of the house, causing the leak.

Engineers from Transco were called, and the five members of the family were asked to leave the property until the scene was made safe.

Watch Manager Dave Walters from Elm Lane station said: “The house had an external gas meter with the pipe running from it. Fortunately, police officers managed to isolate the supply from the meter before we arrived, but it was necessary to get the family out of the property as a precaution.”
