Man Rescued by Firefighters
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have this evening attended a fire at a derelict property on Erskine Road, Eastwood in Rotherham.
Fire crews were alerted to the fire at 6:28pm. Four appliances, two from Rotherham and two from Darnall were quickly on the scene.
On arrival firefighters found a large amount of smoke coming from the building. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose reels to tackle the fire which was on the ground floor.
A search of the property was made and a male casualty was found on the first floor. The man was suffering from smoke inhalation and was transported by ambulance to hospital.
Fire crews left the scene at 8:50pm.
Elderly Resident Rescued by Firefighters
Firefighters from Thorne Station came to the rescue of a 97 year-old lady in Hatfield after her bungalow filled with smoke on Friday morning.
The resident’s smoke alarm activated when some toast began to burn, but in the commotion she was unable to find her keys to get out of the property.
Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly and were able to enter the property, carrying the lady to safety.
Paramedics gave her oxygen therapy but she did not require hospital treatment.
Watch Manager Paul Charnley said: “The lady was very frightened when our crews arrived and wouldn’t have been able to get out of the property on her own. Fortunately her smoke alarm alerted us to the incident and we were able to get there in time.”
