Charity Carwash Raises Bucket Loads of Cash

South Yorkshire firefighters are saying a big “thank you” to members of the public who paid to have their cars washed as part of a national fundraising drive.

The firefighters recently participated in National Car Wash Day to raise money for The Fire Fighter’s Charity, which supports injured firefighters and their families.

The event, which took place in March, raised an impressive £4,739.

Most of the South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue’s fire stations took part in the annual event, which this year also saw the Training and Development Centre in Handsworth joining in the fun.

Group Manager Dave Kiddy thanked everyone who brought their cars in for the wash and gave vital donations: “The event proved to be a great success and everyone had an enjoyable day.  Members of the public not only drove away in a clean car but were also given valuable advice on fire safety in their homes.”

The Fire Fighter’s Charity is currently supporting injured South Yorkshire firefighters, Ian Tape and Grant Baugh, and their families.  Both firefighters sustained serious burns during a fire in Sheffield in February 2008.
