South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue had received 43 earthquake related calls, from the time of the earthquake to 09:00 this morning. We have attended 16 incidents and received a further 27 calls where advice and information were given.
Below is a brief summary of the main incidents South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue attended.
Barnsley Incidents
Call received: 01:27 - One appliance from Brampton attended.
Address:- Barnsley Road, Wombwell, Barnsley
Masonry had fallen through the roof of the property into the attic bedroom and onto a 19 year old man who was in bed. He was taken by ambulance to hospital. A Dangerous Structures engineer was requested to attend.
Call received: 03:01 - An Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) attended
Address:- Houghton Road, Thurnscoe, Barnsley
Part of the chimney had collapsed with the remains of the stack in a dangerous condition. The ALP attended and removed some of the loose bricks from the chimney.
Call received: 08:40 - Officer attended
Address:- Woodstock Road, Wilthorpe, Barnsley
An Officer attended the incident. A bridge had been reported to have a large crack in it. This is a bridge over a rail track. A structural engineer was requested to attend.
Rotherham Incidents
Call received:- 01:19 - An appliance from Rotherham attended along with the ALP from Doncaster.
Address:- Josephine Road, Holmes, Rotherham
A chimney had collapsed and several bricks had come through the ceiling. There were no injuries.
Call received:- 01:42 - An appliance from Rotherham attended and the ALP from Barnsley.
Damaged Chimney – there was a hole in the side of the chimney, the ALP was requested so they could get a better look at the state of the chimney. Firefighters made the scene safe.
Doncaster Incidents
Call received:- 01:54 - An appliance from Thorne and the ALP from Doncaster attended.
Address:- South End, Thorne, Doncaster
The chimney was reported to be unsafe. Firefighters requested the ALP so they could get a better look.
The Firefighters on the ALP removed all the unsafe building materials from the chimney. The occupants were advised to contact a builder first thing in the morning.
Call received:- 09:04 - An appliance from Edlington attended.
Address:- Church House, Common Lane, Clifton, Doncaster
The chimney pots were reported to be in a dangerous position. Firefighters removed the chimney pots safely.
