The Transport Section is based at Fire Service Headquarters in Sheffield and contains the Administrative Section, the Main Workshops and Transport Stores.  This site together with a satellite equipment repair workshop at the Rotherham Fire Station site (which also contains the brigade vehicle paint shop), supports all the engineering needs of the Fire Service.

Transport Section is responsible for the management, administration, and repair and maintenance of:

Appliances and Vehicles
Demountable Units
Ladders and Rescue Equipment
Items of Plant and Associated Equipment

The work undertaken by the Brigade Engineering staff encompasses all aspects of vehicle and equipment repair maintenance, major mechanical overhauls, fabrication work, vehicle and equipment refurbishments, modifications and Accident Repairs.

The section supports the operational needs of the service on a 24 hour basis providing emergency maintenance back up outside normal working hours.

In addition to this Transport Section staff form part of the PDA (pre-determined attendance) at major incidents.
