Emergency Planning

The Emergency Planning Unit is staffed by two Divisional Emergency Planning Officers. It has statutory duties for the preparation, review and exercising of emergency plans under three major pieces of legislation:-

  • The Control of Major Accident Hazard Regulations 1999 (COMAH)
  • The Pipeline Safety Regulations 1996
  • The Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2001

The officers provide training, exercise and planning support to local authorities in South Yorkshire.  They also work with the other emergency services, Environment Agency, Health & Safety Executive, utilities, voluntary sector and other agencies to enhance liaison on contingency planning across the County.  This includes Temporary Mortuary planning and management of the Emergency Communications System.
