Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply candidates must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over at the commencement of their training
  • Be eligible to work in the United Kingdom
  • Be available to attend and complete the relevant Initial Training Course in full

In addition to the above candidates wishing to apply for the Driver/Pump Operator role must:

  • be 21 years of age or over (must be 21 to hold LGV licence)
  • hold a valid Category C LGV Driving Licence
  • have completed 200 miles LGV driving

Candidates cannot be considered for the Fire and Rescue Operative role if:

  • They have any history of asthma or other respiratory conditions (including childhood history)
  • They have colour vision deficiency (colour blindness)
  • They have had laser eye surgery in the last 12 months
  • They have suffered from any musculoskeletal symptoms in the last 12 months
  • They have any ongoing mental health condition. (It must be at least 2 years since last episode)
  • They have any hearing deficiencies. (Candidates cannot use hearing aids)
  • They require glasses for distance vision (excluding reading glasses or soft contact lenses). Please note that candidates with ‘hard’ contact lenses cannot be considered.
