Animals safe after house fire

Fire crews from Dearne and Edlington stations were called to a fire at a semi-detached house on Chaucer Road in Mexborough at 11pm on Monday night.

The front door of the property was on fire.  Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly put the fire out using hose reels.  The fire had been contained to the door area, however, the property did have smoke inside.

No one was in the house at the time of the fire, however firefighters found a number of animals inside including a dog and several reptiles, all of which were fine.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Fire crews left the scene at 00:20am.
