Crews aid passengers after M1 car fire

Firefighters from Tankersley attended a car fire on the M1 Northbound, between junctions 36 and 37, earlier today (Thursday 11 April).

Crews arrived shortly after being called at 6.44am to find the fire, which had started accidentally due to overheating, was already out.

Whilst back-up crews were told to stand down, the first appliance on the scene until around 7.15am to ensure the safety of the passengers who were stuck on the roadside – with the car no longer driveable.

Nobody was injured during the incident – which was handed over to colleagues from Highways England.
