Fire crews attend two kitchen fires in Doncaster

Firefighters have attended two kitchen fires in Doncaster over the weekend.

Two fire crews were called to a fire on Lime Tree Walk in Denaby Main at 11:30pm on Friday night.  A pan had been left on the hob resulting in a small fire, luckily the occupant had working smoke alarms which had been fitted by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and alerted them to the fire.

At 1:15pm on Saturday crews attended another kitchen fire on Anfield Road in Cantley.  Two elderly people were inside the property and were given fire survival guidance by Control Operators, with both being transferred to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Top tips for avoiding kitchen fires:

  • Oven gloves, tea towels, cardboard and electric leads are well away from the hob
  • Ovens and grill pans should be free from grease and crumbs, as these can easily catch fire
  • Don’t leave cooking unattended and never use chip pans or pans filled with hot oil
