Man rescued from kitchen fire

An elderly man was rescued from his home after a fire broke out in his kitchen.

Two fire crews from Birley Moor and Parkway stations were called at 2:20am on Tuesday morning to Alnwick Drive in Sheffield.

The fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire in the kitchen while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to search for the occupant.  They found the elderly man and carried him outside.  Crews gave him oxygen at the scene and left him with the ambulance crew.

Crews left the scene at 3:45am.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.
