Garages Gutted in Blaze
Four council-owned garages have been gutted after a large blaze on Church Street in Brierley.
Firefighters from Royston, along with two crews from West Yorkshire, were called to the premises at around 21:15 on Tuesday evening.
They found four bays at the Brierley offices depot, with vehicles inside, well alight.
Firefighter Mark Heaton from Royston Station said: “The garages had been used to store two transit vans, a tractor lawnmower and a trailer. The roof had fallen in and the shutters all fell off as a result of the blaze.”
The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious.
Crews Called Again to Tackle Derelict Building Blaze
Fiefighters were called to a blaze at the old Westfields building on Victoria Road in Barnsley for the second night running.
Four pumps attended the fire at around 20:45 on Tuesday, and found one room at the derelict building well alight.
A search of the building using breathing apparatus found no-one was trapped inside.
Both fires at the location are believed to have been started deliberately.
Man Trapped at Engineering Firm
A worker at a Sheffield engineering firm has been taken to hospital this lunchtime after becoming trapped between the roll cage of a forklift truck and a container.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to release the man, in his 20s, at DavyMarkham on Prince of Wales Road.
He was taken to the Northern General hospital with serious injuries.
Watch Manager Eric Bugdol from Darnall Station said: “The man had ended up trapped between the top of the cage on the forklift and the underside of the container. We managed to support the cage before removing the sides so he could be released into the care of paramedics.”
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.
